Aqua Natural - African Cichlid Aragonite Sand

A naturally occurring oolitic aragonite sand containing up to 98% pure calcium carbonate. Sustainably collected from the crystal-clear waters of The Bahamas, its smooth, egg-shaped grains provide an effective substrate for marine, reef and African cichlid aquariums.

Its natural buffering capability helps maintain a pH of approximately 8.2 without the constant addition of chemicals. One kilogram provides more than one million square centimetres of surface area, creating extensive space for beneficial ammonia-, nitrite- and nitrate-reducing bacteria.

• Suitable for marine, reef and African cichlid aquariums
• Helps naturally buffer aquarium pH
• Smooth, consistent oolitic grain structure
• Tasteless, odourless and dustless
• Provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria
• Naturally renewable and sustainably sourced

Directions

Rinse thoroughly in a bucket using clean water only. Do not use soap or cleaning agents. Continue rinsing until the overflow changes from milky to lightly cloudy. Any remaining cloudiness should clear after several hours of filtration.

For a new aquarium, place the rinsed sand into the empty tank before carefully adding water. Start the filtration system and allow the aquarium to clear and cycle before adding fish or invertebrates.

For an established aquarium, add small amounts of rinsed substrate across the existing sand bed over several days. Slight cloudiness may persist temporarily in freshwater applications due to calcium carbonate dissolution.
