Aqua Natural Aquarium Substrate - Volcanic Laterite
$49.00
Volcanic Laterite is a rich, mineral-based substrate designed to support healthy aquatic plant growth. It can be used alone or as a fertile base beneath substrates such as AquaEarth, Scoria, or Iron Sand.
- Mineral-rich planted aquarium substrate
- Provides a fertile base for aquatic plants
- Can be used alone or beneath another substrate
- Suitable for freshwater aquariums, paludariums and tropical terrariums
Directions
- Rinse in a bucket or sieve to remove the smallest particles. Do not over-wash.
- Some red clay will continue to be released during rinsing; this is normal.
- Add the laterite to the aquarium and fill slowly to avoid disturbing it. Placing a plastic bag over the substrate while filling can help diffuse the water flow.
- Fill until the water is approximately 3 - 4 cm above the substrate to make planting easier.
- Level the surface or create gradients using a scraper or ruler.
- Plant the aquarium, misting plants regularly so they do not dry out.
- Slowly fill the aquarium to the desired level.
- Start the filtration system and allow several days for remaining clay particles to settle or be filtered out.
Care and Attention
- The water-conditioning properties will naturally decrease over time.
- Not suitable for strong burrowing fish.
- Do not use with aquarium gravel vacuum cleaners.
How Much Substrate Do I Need?
- Multiply the aquarium or habitat length by its width and desired substrate depth, usually 5-10cm.
- Divide the result by 1000.
- The result is the approximate weight required in kilograms.
Example: 60cm x 30cm x 5cm = 9000. Divided by 1000, this equals approximately 9kg of substrate.
