Choosing a Filter

As a general guide, select a filter with a litres-per-hour rating approximately six times the total aquarium volume. Filter media selection is also important because it determines how the water is treated.

Calculating Aquarium Volume

Measure the aquarium in centimetres, then multiply length × width × height. Divide the result by 1,000 to estimate the volume in litres.
